SJTU Students Won Gold Medal Again in International Competition

Recently, results of the 2019 University Physics Competition were announced. A team consisted of SJTU students Fang Yigao, Chen Siyi from University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute, and Shen Qi from School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering won a gold medal in the competition among 305 international teams. In addition, the other three SJTU teams won two silver awards and one bronze award.

Sponsored by American Physical Society and American Astronomical Society, the University Physics Competition is an international competition held for undergraduates. In this year's competition, there were two projects, Problem A: Protecting Travelers to Mars and Problem B: Design a Roller Coaster. Each team need choose one project and conduct in-depth research on it.

It is reported that this year's contest drew 305 international teams to compete for 5 gold awards (1.6% of the total teams), 60 silver awards (20% of the total teams) and 83 bronze awards (27% of the total teams). SJTU has participated in this competition since 2012. According to Mateusz Krzyzosiak, the team instructor from University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute, SJTU students have performed well and achieved outstanding results in the contest. So far, SJTU has won 2 gold awards, 5 silver awards and 16 bronze awards in this competition.
